Age limits and terms for young volunteers

Love Kuching Project welcomes volunteers that are older than 14 to become a volunteer with portfolio, though we have age limits depending on the team that you wish to join.

As a cat rescue group that is focused on loving the cats in our lives and neighbourhoods, we welcome young volunteers to be part of a volunteer community we are connected to, where we can empower them to be the best that they can be.

However, we have team-specific roles that would require volunteers to be skilled, and other forms of work may be inherently risky and thus unsuitable for young adults (like facilities management, where you may have to work with power tools).

As a young volunteer, you can join our service learning program or start a self-initiated service-learning project through your school if you do not meet the age limit to join any of our teams. You can find out more about these below:

Here are the age limits for various teams:

Foster Care

Volunteers must be older than 16 to be a Foster Care volunteer with portfolio.

We welcome volunteers who are below the age of 16 to join the Foster Care team on an ad-hoc basis, through Play/Clean or starting a self-initiated service learning programme.

Fundraising and Events team

Volunteers must be above 14 to join the Fundraising and Events teams.

Volunteers must be older than 18 to be part of the Rescue team, as Rescue handles work with members of the public that would need help.

Volunteers must be above 17 to join the Outreach team.

Volunteers must be above 16 to join the Marketing team.

Volunteers must be older than 16 to serve an Administrative or Account role, or to be a Facilities Management ad-hoc assistant (you will be supervised while doing Facilities Management work).

To be a Legal volunteer or a Tech volunteer, you will need to have the relevant skills (like a degree in law or a job relating to computer science).

Human Resources

Volunteers must be older than 16 to be part of the Human Resources team.

Young volunteers below 18 years (but meet the age limits for volunteering in a team-specific role) will have to submit a signed copy of a volunteer consent form to their respective team managers after they have been accepted for the role. You can download the form below:

About the consent form

We set out the volunteer terms and conditions below to ensure that parents (or guardians) understand what their child (or ward) will do at Love Kuching Project as a volunteer with portfolio (or a volunteer with a team-specific role for more than three months). These volunteer terms set out in short:

That you consent to the collection of your personal information and that of your child/ward, and to Love Kuching Project’s use of this information in compliance with the Protection of Personal Data Act 2012.

For more information on how Love Kuching Project will handle your personal data, you can refer to our Privacy Policy.

That you understand that because animals (and cats) may behave in unpredictable ways (especially when they feel scared, nervous, angry, ill or threatened), and there is an inherent risk of injury or illness when you handle them. You will not hold us liable for any damages that you or child/ward may suffer arising from these complications.

Our volunteers will offer first-aid in the event that you (or your child/ward) is scratched or bitten, and we will advise on precautions that need to be taken if a cat is feral or hard to handle.

That you and your child/ward will not disclose or let other people know confidential information pertaining to other volunteers, donors or rescuers without the prior written consent of Love Kuching Project. This includes the cattery’s location and phone numbers.

Any changes to the Volunteer Terms must be made in writing and signed by both you and the authorised signatory of LKP.

These Volunteer Terms shall be construed and governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore.
